Then the kickstarter from a kz1000, brand new from uk, not original (around 50 60€, but came to 96€ with shipping and customs). and lastly primary gear (34€), but it included a lot of nice bits and pieces: water pump gear, idler gear, clutch basket nut and washer, some sort of metal bushings that i’m not familiar with. I put a kickstarter on my 89 650 for under $200 using klr 600 parts found on ebay. later model klr's need more parts to get the job done, possibly including the old style clutch basket. if the case on your klr is a solid casting where the kick lever shaft would stick out, you would need an older style side cover. I think kawasaki discontinued the kickstarter kit long before they deleted the plug . . . after all, as you mentioned, a pre 1996 clutch basket is required. further, my 2007 klr650 has a hole in the case for the kickstarter shaft (although, as mentioned, kickstarter kits were long discontinued, the case design remained unchanged); was this. I just scored a kickstarter assembly off a 600 which included everything except the seal and the kickstart lever for a whopping $50. is there any other lever that fits or does it have to bee off a 600 klr?.
