In my case, i needed to install the java jdk and the salesforce cli using the installer from the official website, so that the environment variables were correctly configured. The etimedout error during vs code extension installation can be frustrating, but by systematically addressing potential network issues, configuring proxy settings correctly, and utilizing manual installation methods, you can effectively overcome this obstacle.
