When i use illustrator on files that have a linked image, the same linked image keeps reappearing over and over again to the file. when i leave the file open, the linked image duplicates itself and i come back to 10 layers of the same linked image in the exact same location. Then open the linked files palette (under window), select one image and ‘relink’ it to your duplicated folder, the other images in your file should relink automatically. If you've embedded your file in the illustrator document and later you want to link it with the source file so that the changes reflect automatically, you can unembed it.
