I've had this several times. try to let it follow you and swim away. it might get unstuck then. sometimes you have to swim away quite far.

Ichthy (dolphin) fast, squisky, passive tames on raw meat. while i usually skip them, they can be great for a player learning the ropes. swim to an oil node, whack it, remount and run to the surface. much like birds, i advise leaving them on passive, as if they swim off, good luck. The ichthy will try to swim away after the initial feeding, but the rocks keep them from going anywhere. swim right up to them, and you will kind of pin them between yourself and the rocks.
