Mercruiser Youtube I have a 140 hp mercruiser (ser.# 3129102 (1971 or 1972 ?) and the old manual said to use a sae 30 api class. ms or sd *what does the ms or sd mean? i should use a sae 30 weight oil that is a nondetergent type correct? (i boat in lake huron (fresh water) when changing the oil. Re: troubleshooting trim sender gauge? your trim position sensor (if original) is a wire wound resistor and a wiper arm (rheostat) and the gauge is a voltmeter reading the voltage drop across the resistor. a "new style" one works the same way, except the resistor material is deposited on a plastic sheet, and the contact moves across that. you may be able to disassemble the old style one and.

Re: alpha one shifting cable adjustment this is the adjustment for the cable that goes through the transom and to the drive. sounds like this is what needs adjustment that clicking sound is the dogs on the gear trying to engage fully. push in on drive unit shift cable while simulta neously turning propeller shaft counterclockwise until shaft stops, to ensure drive unit is complete ly in. The fuel regulator you have there is different from mine. according to my serial number listed above and the mercury website; it is located on top of the fuel pump cap on the cool fuel module. (mercruiser 892681). does anyone know if my fuel pump cap and regulator come off easy and can it be done while still attached to the engine?.
