A few years ago gibson came out with the 30 60 neck which is .030" thicker than the 60's slim taper. i have a 60s slim taper on my 1965 mm and a 30 60 on my 2010 es 359, and that .030" definitely makes the 30 60 feel fatter. So i don't think it's gibson that is slapping their customers in the face. replacing a $3k instrument is a little more complicated than amazon shipping out another tin of popcorn and telling you you don't have to return the old dented one. and, obviously, it sets a level of expectations.
