Flush Trim Bit On Table Router Router Forums Yesterday i tried to trim a 3 4" piece of pine to a 1 4" masonite template, using a brand new 1 2" flush trim bit. i'm doing this as practice before approaching the same project with hardwood. I cut some plywood and made sure i have perfect straight edges so my trim router can ride along the face to make a nice shelf to line up the boards. i make two of them so that the distance is the same for each side.

I am trying to use this router bit to copy a pattern. i watched videos and they make it look so easy, but every time my wood touches that bit, even at the slowest speed, it launches it across the room. I’m seeking validation on flush trimming using a router and router table. right now, unless i do things just exactly, my router sends the piece flying across the shop. I will say this, though, with the router table it is a bit easier to just take smaller bites and to slowly work your way down to the final cut. still, you risk pushing it in a bit too much and getting that kickback, which is a disaster.

I am using a flush trim bit in my router table, and am having a difficult time. i am moving the piece along the bit in the same direction as i would if the fence was on the table. In a router table, typically you’d use a **top bearing** flush trim bit (because when inverted in the table, the bearing will be on top, next to the workpiece). you press your workpiece (with the template or a straight edge) against the bearing that protrudes above the table. One of the tricks i keep up my sleeve to create flush surfaces and tight fitting assemblies is to start with parts that are slightly oversized. then, after assembly, i trim the parts smooth and flush. I am new to router tables i am using a flush brim bit on my router table. but i have notice that some time the bearings will ride up just a bit and leaves.
