Designing For Circularity Durable Building Solutions

Designing For Circularity Durable Building Solutions Applying principles of circularity to the built environment can help achieve global and regional sustainability goals. new and retrofitted buildings require significant resources for construction and ongoing maintenance. The whitepaper on circularity in the built environment offers strategies for a sustainable transition in the built environment, highlighting how reimagined circular design, technology and business models can unlock environmental and economic value.

Designing For Circularity Durable Building Solutions This booklet brings together the insights and experience of design practitioners, researchers and other organisations from brussels and beyond on designing buildings prepared for change and circularity. Discover how circular construction is reshaping the built environment through reuse, adaptable design, and closed loop material strategies. Its overarching goal is to intentionally offer solutions for the minimized, effi cient, and effective utilization of resources, aiming to prevent emissions, losses, and environmental degradation while fulfilling societal requirements. We’re super excited to announce that the circle lab, in partnership with the arvin lab, received an nsf award to combine life cycle assessment (lca), machine learning, and generative ai to enable design for circular economy in early design stages!.

Explorations of circular design strategies that extend the longevity and useful life of buildings, its components and materials, aim at reducing the environmental impacts throughout the life of a building and beyond. Watch our video and explore how circular economy principles are revolutionising the built environment, promoting sustainable design, construction, and operational practices that prioritize resource efficiency. Using bim and creating a digital twin can support the design of buildings that consider the possibility of disassembly and reuse, facilitating the identification of building components for reuse in other projects, promoting the principle of circularity. Design based on circularity, with lifespan extension, adaptable and flexible buildings, assembly and disassembly of building elements, deconstruction as opposed to demolition and clever low carbon design solutions this has the potential to reduce these embodied carbon emissions significantly.
