In the save as dialog box, for save as type, select the previous version to which to save the document and click save. if there are incompatible items or other items in the document, the previous release check dialog box appears. otherwise, the software saves the document as the previous version.

From the file > save as menu, you can select solidworks 2022 or solidworks 2023. if any newer features were added after the version we want to save for, we will get an error and need to clean them up. the previous release check tool will show the affected features and what version they were added. You cannot use save as to save to an earlier version, and you cannot open the newer version with an older version of solidworks, with one exception. you can open part and assembly files in read only mode in service pack 5 of the previous release. In the new solidworks 2024, you can easily save your parts, assemblies, and drawings as a previous version of solidworks up to two years prior to the latest release. I think this has been asked before, but if i have sw2023 can i save a part, drawing, or assembly as a generic older version that someone with say sw 2021 could open it?.
