Appendix C Additional Tables For Unauthorized Immigration Estimate Numbers fall in u.s. states with the largest unauthorized immigrant populations. The estimates shown for unauthorized immigrants and the underlying survey data are derived from acs ipums 1% samples for 2005 16 and march cps public use files for 1995, 1998, 2000 and 2003, which have been reweighted to take into account population estimates consistent with the 1990, 2000 and 2010 censuses and the most recent population estimates.

Appendix C Additional Tables For Unauthorized Immigration Estimate This report estimates two populations to derive the unauthorized immigrant population estimate: 1) the total foreign born population living in the united states on january 1 of each year in the series, and 2) the legally resident, foreign born population on the same dates. The estimates of the unauthorized population for 1990 2012 were adjusted to include people not counted in the census, and the total population numbers for those years were not adjusted, so the share of each state’s unauthorized immigrant population may be slightly overstated. At the end, the final estimates agree with the residual estimates for the six individual states noted earlier and for the balance of the country; for mexican born and other legal and unauthorized immigrants in each area; and for children, working age men and working age women within each category. Two basic methods are available for estimating the number of undocumented immigrants included in the census enumeration of resident population.

This report presents estimates of the number of unauthorized immigrants in the united states as of july 2023 and for earlier years. these estimates supersede all previously published pew research center estimates. this appendix provides details on how the estimates are rounded and definitions of various concepts used in the report. this methodology section is the third of three. two others. Table 1 enumerates the most recent unauthorized population estimates from six sources. The number of unauthorized immigrants in the u.s. fell to its lowest level in more than a decade, according to new pew research center estimates based on 2016 government data. the decline is due almost entirely to a sharp decrease in the number of mexicans entering the country without authorization. In this article, we describe a method for producing reliable annual estimates of the size of the unauthorized immigrant population and of the components of change in the size of that population, all disaggregated by state.
